Also, I found this link to the "Bad is Bad" video (I had to find it because you reminded me how much I love it and used to listen to it over and over!):

Ok, now I know we were meant to cross paths! Sting/The Police AND "Hey Julia"?! Get outta town! You're the only other person I know who knows the song "Hey Julia."

This looks like so much fun that I'm going to start my own list tomorrow!

I love the song Video by India Arie - have done for years. But thanks so much for the link - I never saw the video until now.

One of my favourite songs of all time is "California Soul" by Marlena Shaw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmk30mvVz3Y

There is no video but you can hear the song.

I love your blog!

I don't think I'm old enough yet to have a hundred favourites of anything except maybe people. Even starting to make lists like that makes me nervous about all of the music or books or foods or movies that I've yet to discover!

I, too, love story songs. I can't wait to listen to the cover of that Ani D. song (would you could you be bribed into uploading it somewhere -- www.mediafire.com, maybe -- to share with me? can't afford the itunes store right now). Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car' and Simon & Garfunkel's 'America' would probably be on my list just for the story (and the melancholy chords, which I also loooove).

Also, hey, I just heard Ain't No Sunshine on the radio! It made me really happy -- I had to sit in my car in front of my house and listen to it to the end.

I'm pretty sure that Jonatha Brooke, at one point, sang the Goodyear jingle, too. I have no problem with commercial crossovers; I find a lot of great artists that way.

I'm going to go look up "Ordinary Miracles" now... Keep that new music coming!

Speaking of Sara McLachlan and commercial songs (Da Da) (and my reference in my list to Richard Buckner's "Ariel Ramirez"--also a VW commercial). I have been seeing the CVS commercials and the really lovely song in them.
I found out it is "Ordinary Miracles" sung by, I think, Kathy Fisher (not available yet). Then I discovered, via iTunes, that it is performed also by Sara McLachlan, and was in the movie "Charlote's Web."

Oh crap. Now I desperately want to make my own list. Christmas vacation maybe...
Some comments:
Even my husband knows about the genius of Freddie Mercury. I love that story.
Very interested in your choice of Matchbox 20 songs. They will make my list often but with different songs.
Love August & Everything After. In my top 10 album list. That doesn't exist.
Overkill. Yes. Carolina on my Mind. Yes. Freedom. Hmmm. Do (quietly in my closet) love me some Wham. Time. Yes, yes, yes! Oh and thank you for introducing me to Queen and the Soldier during the time of Freddie Mercury. Although it does prompt husband to quote Princess Bride: "Jesus, Grandpa, what the hell are you reading me this thing for?"

Bo, that is one pretty comprehensive list! As I read through it, there were a couple of songs that I swore only I had ever heard...

"Let The Day Begin" was a good one.

"I Want It All" ROCKED!

"Love Has Taken It's Toll" is one of the most kick-ass songs of all time! Mrs. C., in your school blog you talked about looking fro some good prose or poetry to work with. Check out the lyrics to this song. Talk about presenting an image and setting a mood!

"Ah, Leah" is underappreciated.

"Satisfaction Guaranteed" - i didn't think anybody knew who The Firm was!

Great list!

Great list!

I did a list some time back, but it was my top 100 pop songs of the '80s--in order. It was a lot of fun. It's here if you're interested. All of the journaling and "better or worse"ing took forever. I should do a no-particular-order list like this one and open it up to everything.

Wow! Really, I am far more articulate than that but somehow this enormous effort warrants, at the very least, a WOW.

We share quite a few favorites and many I have never heard of, so I look forward to visiting this page and exploring.

I don't know if I have ever told you this, but I had a shrine to Phil Collins up on my wall when I was 14 and his was the first concert (8th row) that I ever saw. I saw Genesis 4 times and can tell you that it gave me quite a kick to hear, "Land of Confusion" and then one of my all-time favorites, "Turn it On Again." So, thank you.

Which Indigo Girls song do you despise?
