Ten things I learned in 2006, in no particular order:
1. Patience is an important element in a marriage.
2. It is far easier to wrap presents on a table than it is to wrap presents on the floor.
3. It is a wise woman who sets her parking brake and leaves her car in gear.
4. It takes six weeks to get into shape, but only one to fall out.
5. It is vitally important that the people we love know that we love them - as much and as often as possible. Cliche or not, life is both short and unpredictable. We must be ever mindful of what really matters.
6. Teaching is a great job, and one for which I am well suited.
7. It is a wise woman who unplugs as much as she can before a lightning storm.
8. Never wear diamond earrings to a wake or funeral. All that hugging is bound to pull one loose.
9. Setting firm classroom rules on the first day of class goes a long way to preventing headaches during the last week of class.
10. A kindness given, however small, is never wasted. No matter how ineffectual it may feel to offer assistance or a shoulder to someone in grief or crisis, it really does matter.

Are you kidding me? I spent HOURS on the floor wrapping presents. Miserable hours of knee pain and back aches. This year I’ll try the table.
Mindful of what matters, indeed. The kind thoughts you sent my way are so appreciated. Nothing new yet, more tests today.

No, seriously - wrapping presents on the table practically eliminates gift-wrap-back-aches. It’s wonderful.
Keep us posted. In the meantime, hold still for a second and see if you can feel the good energy coming your way..
I wrap presents on the kitchen counter because it’s even higher than the table. Plus it forces me to clean it off first. Bonus!
OK, not to nitpick but you’re an overachiever. While most of us are struggling to date things in the current year you’re post-dating stuff you did LAST year as this year.
Oops. Duh. Thanks for catching that. Off to fix….
All handy household hints. Is your first name Heloise perchance??
I got caught out on the date change too. Since you can publish in the future, my posts were going into 2006. Oops!
Can’t use the floor at my house. Unless you want clumps of dog fur stuck to the tape.
Glad you mentioned teaching. I was sad you didn’t list it in your affirmations post.
I didn’t mention it because, right now, I’m not actually doing it. My thoughts have been turned toward a lot of other things for the past few weeks, and I’m really excited for the start of classes on Monday!
I like number 9 - I need the advice as I start my teaching practicum on the 8th. Very, very nervous, I am.
Oooh! How exciting, ciboulette!! Please - if there’s anything that I can do to help you through that experience, do let me know. I had a very trying internship that ended up as a freaking fairy tale, and I know a lot of people who have done internships, so I’ve got a wealth of experience and / or resources for you to draw on. Don’t ever - EVER - feel frustrated or isolated, okay?
I’ll take number 5.
