The other day, I posted a list of affirmations and asked my readers to comment about who they are. Someone I love is going through some tough stuff right now, and felt like she couldn’t answer that question.
I realized, when she said that, that sometimes we need others to help us to see what kind of presents we bring to this party; that it’s not always easy to see - or believe - that we are beautiful and necessary and real. Sometimes, we need someone to point those good things out to us so we can start to recognize them in ourselves. Because I love her as much as I do, I’m going to do that for her here, publicly and out loud, because good and loving things should never be said in a whisper:
•You are funny and quick to point out the funny in almost any situation. I love your laugh.
•You are kind and thoughtful and generous. Sometimes people take advantage of you for that, but I don’t think that should keep you from being so.
•You are creative and have a keen sense of beauty.
•You are practical and pragmatic and really good at cutting to the chase. You know how to get shit done.
• You are connected, in a very real way, to the earth and to growing things. I envy your ability to help things grow, and to understand how to balance your life to the cycles of season.
•You are the kind of friend that I could call at 4 in the morning if I needed you. I trust you with my kids, I trust you with my secrets, I trust you with my heart. You are my friend, and I love you. If you believe nothing else right now, believe that.
I hope your friend reads your blog because this is lovely. If it were for me it would carry me through for quite a while.
This is a wonderful gift and I am sure she will appreciate how heartfelt it is. You blow me away with the size of your HEART.
