- What I'm reading:
SaintSeester has chosen The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier for this month's Dark and Stormy Book Club selection, which I'm about in the middle of. I'm also heartily enjoying John Adams by David McCullough. I was inspired to read this after watching the HBO mini-series, and neither book nor made-for-tv movie has been even a little disappointing. - It's the friends you can call up at 4 a.m. that matter. -Marlene Dietrich

apropos of nothing… I have season tickets for the local ( really good!) repertory theater company and I noticed that their next production is called “Blue Door” — I believe it’s new, and includes music. Any connection?
Nope. Actually, I got the name for this blog after taking a guided meditation.
I was led through a hallway and to a door. I was asked to observe the door; what color it was, what kind of markings, if any, it had on it, and what kind of handle and/or lock it had.
When it was all over, I was asked about the door. My door was a beautiful, clear water blue with a window in the top half. There were no handles or locks, but rather a large brass plate against which I could push to open the door very easily. My door had hinges that allowed the door to be pushed open from either side.
My mom, who was the one who led me through the meditition, said she’s never encountered someone whose inner door was so open.
