Remember, last month, when I was looking for dresses to wear to Dudley and Squeaky’s wedding? Do you also remember that Mr. Chili put in a specific request that I wear a blue dress? Do you also remember that this request confused me a bit, because green is really my best color?
Well, it turns out there was a reason for the color choice. Mr. Chili presented me with something that looks very much like this, just before the wedding began:
This is not the actual ring he gave to me**, but it’s pretty darned close. My ring is done in yellow gold and the sapphire and diamonds are more proportionally sized in my ring, but this picture gives you a pretty good idea of what is gracing the fourth finger of my right hand at the moment.
The ring is essentially a negative of my engagement ring, which features a round diamond in the center flanked by two sapphires on the sides. Mr. Chili said that this new ring was a combination birthday and tenth anniversary gift, but he loves to give me things when I’m least expecting them; my birthday was in January and our tenth was last June. My husband is a raging romantic (you wouldn’t know it to look at him, but it’s true) and a wedding is just the kind of thing that would inspire him to buy me a gift like this.
Even without the shiny-sparklies, I am crazy, irrationally in love with this man. He is kind and funny, thoughtful and smart, and gentle and affectionate. He puts our marriage above all his other priorities, and I trust him with everything that I am and everything that I have. He’s an amazing father and a true and fierce friend, and I am often astounded by how wonderful my life has been since he agreed to share it with me.
**I’m giving you this picture because it’s much nicer than any of the pictures I took of my own hand…

That is so beautiful, not the ring (which is fine) but the feelings you express towards your man and your life with him. Thank you for sharing that . I think my Sweetie and I have that level of warmth, affection, and sharing, and I try to show her every day, multiple times per day if I have the chance. Right now I’m in North Platte, Nebraska, helping out my big brother (my latest blog post fills in the details) and missing my lady a lot.
Itching to get on the road, maybe I’ll roust him out of bed.
Awww. That is so sweet. I love getting and giving gifts when they aren’t expected. Those are the best kind.
Pretty ring. I like sapphires.
