I’ve been nominated by Tense Teacher as a Rockin’ Girl Blogger!
Having never been the popular kid - really, having spent most of my life on the sidelines not being noticed for much - I’m really flattered and honored that Tense would choose me for this recognition. I loved what she said in her nomination, too, especially that she thinks I’m “always diplomatic and wide open to others’ points of view, never rabid or closed-minded.” I strive for those things, and it’s nice to know that, at least some of the time, I manage to attain them.
The idea here, as I understand it, is that I get to nominate five other bloggers who I think rock. Since Tense nominated me - and SaintSeester, who would TOTALLY be on my list - I’m leaving them off, but you should go and read them all the time because, well, they really do rock.
I’m disappointed that I’m supposed to only nominate girl bloggers - there are a lot of GREAT guy writers out there so, to make it up to them, I’m going to post a Ten Things Tuesday blogroll edition next week, just so I can spread the love around. Come back and check it out, okay?
Ready? Here are five girl bloggers who rock my world:
Kizz over at 117hudson was my gateway drug to blogging. She’s smart, she’s funny, she’s talented, and she’s been my friend for over twenty years. I tend to live a little vicariously through her; she lives in NYC and I, well, I don’t, so I get to hear about adventures in subways and dog parks without having to lug my groceries up three flights to my apartment.
Blue sends me right over the edge. This woman has got it going on; she’s smart, she’s riotously funny, she’s inquisitive and she takes no shit from anyone. I am 100% sure that she and I would get along swimmingly if we were to meet. She’s got a bunch of blogs - you can see her here at her more mommy-oriented blog, here at her ranting, raving bitch blog (this one’s my favorite - no one, and I mean no one, can make better use of the word “fuck” than she can) and here at her farm blog. Every single one is a guaranteed good read.
Organic Mama is a good friend of mine and is someone who I may or may not have addicted to blogging (if I did, though, it’s only fair; she got me hooked on the damned Outlander novels, and I’m still fantasizing about strong, broad, red-headed Scots in kilts). She and I are both English teachers, and I love that we can depend on each other for challenging, funny, interesting conversation.
VeryContrary has been one of my favorite bloggers since the day I found her. She’s not been updating very much lately (eh-HEM!), but when she does, she’s sharp, sarcastic, and snarky, and I dig that about her. She’ll be moving to my area code in the next few years, and I’m really, really looking forward to that.
I love Grammar Snob (with a moniker like that - not to mention her tag line of “semicolons make me hot” - how could I not?). She’s another one who’s not updating quite as often as I would like (of course, I’m someone who obsessively updates every day, so take that criticism for what it’s worth), but I keep checking in because, when she does write, she does it well and beautifully. Here is another woman I know for sure I’d really like if we met, and I’m hoping to do that someday.
Okay, so that’s five. I want to make plain here that my nomination of these bloggers in no way diminishes my love for (or addiction to) the bloggers you see down there in the blogroll to your right (hi, guys!). I read every one of them, I treasure their input to my blog, and consider them part of my community. Check back next Tuesday and I’ll highlight, following Kizz’s lead, ten other bloggers I love…

Well, cool, thanks! How do I get that pretty pink button for myself? (Dirty!)
I”m checking out your girls right now! And I agree, it is hard to have to leave out someone, just to get down to 5.
Aside: I LOVED Outlander (well the first 2 anyway). Loved it. Loved it. Did I tell you, I love that book?
You DO Rock!
Kizz, I just dragged the icon off of Tense’s site on to my desktop; you should be able to do the same. Let me know if you can’t and I’ll try to email it to you.
See, Seester? Yet another reason that you and I would be friends if we lived in the same time zone. You really should read the series all the way through if you haven’t; I was surprised at Gabaldon’s ability to keep my attention through six books.
WeedWoman, thank you. You would have been on the list if you kept a blog (being my best friend and all, it should be pretty clear that, of all the girls in the world, I think you probably rock the most).
You totally do rock. So congratulations.
My daughter loves the Highlander books. Maybe i should try one. I wouldn’t mind a red-headed be-kilted Scotsman fantasy, or two.
She lost me about 1/2 way through the 4th book. I just can’t stand Roger and “hen” - it bugged me so much. So, I loved the first 2 and am happy to stay in that little part of the imaginary universe. Hmmm epic historic fiction genre. Have you read The Crimson Petal and The White?
You know… wouldn’t it be fun to have an on-line book club? I am in a book club here, and I love the fact that it opens me up to new writers I may never consider. That is how I found OUTLANDER. Maybe some of us gals can do that. We have a monthly pick - I’ll even set up a blog for it. Then during a designated time frame we can either online chat about it or just do it asynch with comments back and forth.
I love the internet.
Meno, I’m tellin’ ya, you WON’T be disappointed.
Seester, if you set up an online book club, I’ll be your first member - AND I’ll recruit and promote from here…
Once I thought of this, I thought up a great way to make it work! I would need you as a contributor. I will email later.
Mrs. Chilifriend, you absolutely rock and I can easily and with no hesitation say that you DID hook me onto blogging, for which you have my undying thaks. I thank ye, ye grreeeat Scot-derived wench!!
Sainseester, sign me up for your bookclub! I have the Crimson and the White on my “to read” pile and may, based on your recommendation, rescue it from the pile and dive in!
See, now. I had already just posted because I didn’t want you to worry.
Thanks for the mention, kiddo, and I can’t wait to be neighbors. Well, sort of neighbors, in that we’ll only have to drive across the state to visit instead of the country.
Now I’ll *have* to do better with the posting since you called me out about in PUBLIC. GOD.
Now, about this Rockin’ Girl Bloggers deal; do we get jackets, or maybe t-shirts, or even a trucker’s hat? Because I do like the cheesy bling, you know.
I can hit up Blue to make us t-shirts, Contrary - that’s a great idea!
I would first like to thank the Academy. I would also like to thank the guy int he green room who sorted my M&M’s by color, just as my contract indicated. I mean, really? Who the hell eats the brown ones, for crying out loud. M&M’s are about color, people! Brown is so 2005.
I would also like to thank my stylist, my agent, my driver and all of the little people who bring me bottles of Figi Water everytime I snap my fingers.
****
Sorry, couldn’t resist - darn, that was fun! Seriously, though, thanks for the shout out - when and where’s our conference going to be?!?!
