Da Do Do Do

Guess what I’M doing this Sunday night!
Mr. Chili managed to score tickets to see The Police at Fenway Park in Boston! (insert uncharacteristic, girly squeal here).
He’s told me that I really don’t want to know how much he paid for these tickets, and I’m going to trust him on that (given that some of the ebay bids START at 500 bucks a pop), but my thinking is that you only live once - at least, that we’re aware of. Besides, if I had a list of things I want to do before I die, seeing The Police in concert would certainly be one of them, and I know that Mr. Chili’s tolerance for “frivolous” expenditures is pretty low - I’m confident that he’s not put us in any financial danger for the sake of a concert.
We’re going to be spending a good portion of the day in the city. Kid-care is covered (thanks to Auntie, who’s agreed to stay overnight at our place so we don’t have to hurry home - THANKS, Auntie!) and we’re praying for decent weather.
I’ve been reviewing the entire Police catalog in my head since yesterday afternoon. I’m trying to not put a whole lot of expectation on the show, but I would really love to hear them do Synchronicity II (another suburban family morning, grandmother screamin’ at the wall!) and Message in a Bottle (seems I’m not alone at bein’ alone): I really do think that those are some of my most favorite Police songs. Mr. Chili’s hoping for King of Pain (there’s a little black spot on the sun today) and Every Little Thing (I resolve to call her up a thousand times a day). I’m thinking, though, that we’re going to have a great time no matter what they play.
I’m very much looking forward to this. Mr. Chili and I haven’t had a proper date in a long time and, as dates go, this one promises to be a doozy.
My husband is so cool…

Nice! That Mr. Chili is a keeper.
Awesome! I am sure you will have an excellent time. When we were in Vegas, Wayfarer was able to score some tickets to Sting’s concert at the MGM. Very cool!
So enjoy — rock out a bit for me too!
Oh, you’re going to have a blast!! Never mind how much Mr. Cool paid - as you say, you only live once!
Unless the Police have changed their ways during the last 6 weeks, be prepared to hear new and unfamiliar arrangements of many your favorite Police oldies. That’s what this reviewer experienced at their LA show in late June:

Maybe they’ve worked out the kinks by now and things are better.
I’ve heard this complaint, too. I’m willing to give them a fair bit of wiggle room, though - you can only play the same songs so many times before you begin to resent the hell out of having to play them again. I’ve heard that James Taylor is so sick of Fire and Rain that he barely plays it anymore. I can totally see how that can happen.
I don’t think I want to “talk” to you anymore… Or, at least until the Green Monster lets go of me.
I know - I’m sorry. I ALMOST thought of keeping this to myself; I don’t LIKE to engender envy in my friends. I’ll see if I can get some pictures, though, and I’ll give you a play-by-play as soon as I can….
In my book envy is a healthy, unavoidable sort of thing that can also be coupled with goodwill toward the person you envy. Jealousy? Not so much.
WAVES of envy radiating off of me. God I hope you have a fabulous time and I can’t see any way that you won’t. I’ve heard the mixed reviews too but never one that was bad enough that I would think you wouldn’t get your money’s worth out of the date.
Also, God Bless Auntie.
Yay! Have fun! (Nice that we’ll be knocking off lifelong to do list items on the same day…
Any songs that you’ll be crushed if you don’t hear?
Tense Teacher — if the Green Monster has a hold of you until Sunday, you’ll be able to see the show too… Oh wait, not THAT Green Monster…
God Bless Auntie, indeed! I owe her for this one.
JRH, your thing is SO much more important than my thing. I’m pleased and excited for you. Be in touch as soon as you can, okay? And send pictures!!
