The Patient is Critical
August 27, 2007 by mrschili
My beloved is in the process of performing a brain transplant on my laptop. In the initial course of the operation yesterday, the patient popped a connector. The outlook is questionable.
Mr. Chili has brought the connector (and the board to which it is supposed to be connected) to work with him at the University. It’s hoped that a, erm, specialist can repair the damage and save the patient. We’re hoping the prognosis isn’t terminal.
In the meantime, my geeky-genius husband has figured out how to make MY computer appear on HIS laptop, via some techno hocus-pocus involving a portable hard drive. Isn’t that cool? Anyway, I’m hoping to have my computer back soon or, failing that, to get the process in motion for obtaining a new one, because I don’t want to hog husband’s computer for longer than I have to.
Wish us luck, please - it might be sorely needed.

I’m actually shaking a little reading that. Please let me know as soon as the operation is complete. I’ll be the one fainted away on the couch in the wating room.
Too bad I didn’t still work at Circuit City - I probably could have gotten you a discount if you need a new one.
Now that I think of it, though, I think my dad still gets his employee discount from IBM, even though he technically doesn’t work there anymore. Let me know if you want me to get in touch with him for you.
Falcon, think about that for a minute. Dad worked for…. IBM. Mrs. Chili works on… MACS!
While I certainly appreciate the sentiment, I’m afraid I won’t be able to accept your offer of help (which, hopefully, won’t be needed….)
Oh NO! I hope the patient gets well, and soon.
computer snob!
Yeah, well, blame it on Mr. Chili. He’s a Mac guy.
The prognosis has been upgraded to “hopeful.” The electronics guy at the University was able to reconnect the connector (with the stern admonition that it not be messed with any more than necessary) and Mr. Chili’s in the process of putting all the guts back in the box. I’ll send word as soon as (if) there are signs of life….
hoping the surgery is a success…..keep us posted!
Also….how hard was it to switch to Mac? I’ll be needing a new system soon and am pondering making the switch.
Snob, SWITCH! I LOVE working on Macs. Everything is intuitive, the operating systems are slick and efficient, and my husband knows how to keep them running (and, if you switch, he’ll be able to be your tech support - just ask Kizz…
My thought are with the patient.
May its little tranformers and mother board be happily and healthily humming soon. I’ll keep my circuits crossed for you!
