- What I'm reading:
Bo has chosen The Stand by Stephen King for this month's Dark and Stormy Book Club selection. I went to the book store last weekend and picked up the (almost 1500 page) novel, and I'm remembering how much I like the way King uses language. I'm also (still) heartily enjoying John Adams by David McCullough. I was inspired to read this after watching the HBO mini-series, and neither book nor made-for-tv movie has been even a little disappointing. I'm managing a chapter every few days - between King and getting used to my new work schedule (which is heavy on the reading), I'm a busy girl. - It's the friends you can call up at 4 a.m. that matter. -Marlene Dietrich

How was the meeting last night?
Nice.
Happy Coming Out Day.
I’m am not surprised that you knew this and I didn’t!
I did come out today though. To the nusre at work. It went something like this; Nurse ” You’re going away this weekend?” Me “yup!” Nurse “I need to go away for the weekend!” Me ” You are welcome to come with.” Nurse “Really?” Me ” Sure, if you want to hang out with a bunch of chicks in P-Town.” Nurse ” No, thanks. I’ll go with you when there are men around for me to look at, though.” Me ” Ok, the men are really nice down there.” Nurse ” Not that I have any issues..” Me “I know, it’s all good!” Nurse ” I used to go to P-Town with friends from college all the time.” Me ” It’s nice down there ,huh?” Nurse “It is beautiful.” Me thinking ” Yeah, hang out in P-town with “friends” while in college, sure.”
Happy coming out day!
HAPPY NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY!
Here’s a great contribution from two lesbian women to commemorate the National Coming Out Day
Video of the Ultimate Coming Out - Wow!
You can also go directly to FaithoftheAbomination.com. Their story will be told in a documentary film. I feel this will be groundbreaking for the GLBT community.
I’ll never forget the day my dad came out to me. He was so afraid I would hate him. No one should have to experience that kind of fear and angst speaking to their own children, much less anyone else.
And I cannot believe 20 years have gone by since the first AIDS quilt - seems like only yesterday to me.
oh. seems ordinarily like an existential question. i just hope that as a parent my children make safe passages into their sexuality whoever they are. and for children of today, that parents have the wisdom and compassion to let their children blossom into their true selves.
