I spent this morning at Boston’s Museum of Science, chaperoning Beanie’s field trip.
I drove myself and two other chaperones (sisters who, it turns out, are students at TCC. When we figured this out (on the way home), the one in the back seat said “I THOUGHT you looked familiar!”). I dislike busses anyway, and I especially dislike them when they’re filled with 40 some-odd screaming third graders.
Anyway, we all arrived safely at the Museum, checked in, and began our investigation. I was given responsibility for Beanie and two other little girls, both of whom were very well behaved. The quieter of my two charges wanted desperately to see the dinosaur bones, so we spent a fair bit of time in there (the less quiet of my two charges only wanted to see the next thing, whatever that thing was). Once we were done with the dinosaurs and the minerals, we went to the Electricity! show, which, despite the fact that I’ve been to the MoS perhaps twenty times in my life, I’ve never managed to see. I had to view it from the back, but it was still pretty spectacular. As soon as I figure out how to upload the video I took to YouTube, I’ll post it here.
While the Electricity! show was happening, I used the gizzy to sign in to Instant Messenger and check in on Kizz. She pointed out that I was setting a bad example by texting while I should have been learning, but the kids weren’t paying any attention to me; they were all pressed against the railing, watching the announcer make volunteers’ hair stand on end – they left me leaning against the back wall. ANYWAY, it was during this little electronic tete-a-tete that I learned that Kizz doesn’t like the T-Rex that has been a centerpiece of the MoS for as long as I can remember. “I’d love to see that show. You’d just have to blindfold me to get me past the T-Rex.” I told her that was a shame, because he was all done up for winter in a cute little scarf (”doesn’t make him any less scary” was her response).
I took this picture to share with you – I’m posting it at the end so Kizz doesn’t get immediate heebies when she opens my site. I’ll post the video as soon as I can, Kizz – you won’t even need a blindfold!

I laughed so hard when I got to this. I, of course, read the title and immediately looked down to see if it was snakes. No snakes, but the T-Rex. Hee. He does look a little ridiculous in that Where’s Waldo scarf but I can’t help flashing back to my elementary school years and the shakes I’d get going up the escalator. For the uninitiated, the escalator in the museum takes you up RIGHT by the T-Rex’s big open mouth.
Our IM has inspired me to write about my elementary experiences at the MoS, thanks!
That is wonderful! I love T-Rex. My daughter’s soccer coach was trying to get her to play more aggressively. She told her to think like a T-Rex. It worked. Then all through the season, she called her REX when she was running up the field (GO REX). My daughter HATED the fact that she was the only one on the team with a cool nickname. I told her it was special.
I call her The Gazelle because she has really long legs compared to the other girls and she bounds down the field, almost, gracefully.
