This WASN’T stolen from Tense Teacher - or from anyone else with a blog. Xena sent it to me through email, and it seemed like good blog fodder, so here you have it. Feel free to boost it if you like:
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
It depends on the shape of the package. Nice, regular, square or rectangular boxes get wrapped; everything else gets bagged.
2. Real tree or artificial?
Real trees - and the taller, the better. We’ve got 14 foot ceilings in our great room, and we try to get a tree worthy of the space. When we get ours put up - probably on Sunday night - I’ll post a picture.
3. When do you put up the tree?
This year? Sunday - tomorrow. Usually, we’re about a weekend or two before the holiday.
4. When do you take the tree down?
Just before New Year’s Eve.
5. Do you like eggnog?
A little. I don’t look forward to it like some do. I’ve got a great eggnog poppy seed bread recipe, though, that I love to make this time of year…
6. Favorite gift received as a child?
Um…. I don’t remember much of me as a child. I’m sure it was a baby doll or something.
7. Do you have a nativity scene?
I DO, but I don’t put it out. It was given to me by my biological mother. Enough said.
8. Hardest person to buy for?
Believe it or not, my husband. The one person I know best in the world is the hardest person for me to buy for. Go figure.
9. Easiest person to buy for?
My children and my mother-in-law, believe it or not. One of the hardest people in my life is the easiest to buy for. Go figure.
10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
A lovely assortment of process cheese food from my biological mother. She took them right from her refrigerator and made like she was bestowing crown jewels upon me. I don’t even LIKE cheese. I’m so not lying - you can ask Mr. Chili.
11. Mail or email Christmas cards?
I used to mail - and I may still this year, too - but usually I give my love in person.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
I’ve got a couple - I LOVE Patrick Stewart’s A Christmas Carol (NO! REALLY?! We hadn’t noticed!!) and the Muppet’s version of the same story. I think that the Santa Clause is cute, and I’m fond of the claymation specials from my childhood.
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
I really do try to grab stuff that speaks of the people I buy for whenever I notice it. I’ve been known to buy holiday gifts in August. The bulk of the shopping gets done about three weeks before Christmas, though.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
I think I heard recently that EVERYONE does this, but no one talks about it. Yes, I have. No, I don’t talk about it.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Creamed onions and all the chocolate that seems to make its way into my orbit this time of year. Not at the same time, of course.
16. Clear lights or colored on the tree?
Clear.
17. Favorite Christmas song?
Gabriel’s Message by Sting. I’m also fond of O Holy Night, and I’m liking I Saw Three Ships now that Punkin’ Pie knows how to play it on her flute (watch this space for a video coming soon!)
18. Travel for Christmas or stay at home?
If you’ve been paying any attention at all, you’ll know that we’ve got a hard-won stay-at-home Christmas this year. Yay, Us!
19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeers?
Let’s see: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen. It appears that I can!
20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Neither. We put a red bow at the top.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
One present Christmas Eve and the rest Christmas morning, though sometimes they all get opened in the morning. This year, we’ll likely be opening gifts with the in-laws on the Eve. We’ll see how it goes.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year?
Traffic and rude people in shopping venues.
23. What I love most about Christmas?
Sharing it with my children.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
