If, when you call someone, you could have their phone ring a particular song, what would it be?
For some of you, this is a hypothetical question; what song do you feel represents you best? For those of you who know my cell phone number, though, this is an “I want an answer” question - I can set the iPhone to ring clips of anything that I have in my iTunes library. When you call me, what do you want my phone to ring?
Just as points of interest, when I call Mr. Chili from the home line, it plays a bit of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and when Dudley calls him, it plays this bit from Steppenwolf. I’ve been having fun thinking up what music I would assign to my friends, and I’m interested to see what YOU guys would want my phone to sing while you’re calling me…

Hmmm… How about, “Suddenly I See?”
DONE!
I want to know what you’d choose for me first. On Pony Express’ phone it plays the dog bark for me. (Yes, I’m just stalling, I have no idea what to choose.)
You can bark for me, too, Kizz. I’m thinking about what I’d choose for you, though, and I’m thinking maybe Sally from Jonatha Brooke. That song speaks to me of us - how different our lives are, but how much we still love one another. What do you think?
Well, I know what I’d pick for me, but I’m curious as to what you would pick for me. I’d like to know what song or sound effect or whatever you think symbolizes me.
You go first, then I’ll tell you my suggestion.
See, you people aren’t playing along! I don’t want to have to do ALL the thinking!
Falcon, for you, I’d probably try to get a clip of something from LOTR. Doesn’t Bowyer have the soundtrack on CD? Do you?
I was able to request a song when my wife set up her phone. When I call her, it plays Sirius by Alan Parsons.
When she calls me, the ringtone and ringback are Beautiful by James Blunt.
Unassigned people that call me get Who Can It Be Now? by Men at Work.
Oh, I LIKE the unassigned ringtone, Alan! That’s a GREAT idea!
Falcon, I’m also considering some really bad 80’s hair band for your ringtone…
OMG…I am totally stealing the unassigned ring! LMAO!! Right now my phone plays, Let is Snow by Frank Sinatra. When my husband calls, Queen’s Best Friend plays.
Two songs for me…either Buttercup or I’ve Got the Music in Me
Oldie but a goodie! LOL
I have an all Cheap Trick scheme:
The default ring is “ELO Kiddies.”
Lea’s ring is “If You Want My Love.”
Charles’s ring is “Gonna Raise Hell.”
Dad’s ring is “Daddy Should Have Stayed In High School.”
Jenny’s ring is “You’re All Talk.”
I’ve had this a long time, though. I’m working on a different one.
How about “In or out” By Ani DiFranco? Naw, I’m totaly out. I know! “Girls” by The Beastie Boys! No, not appropriate for the litle ears. “Short Skirt/Long Jacket” by Cake? Can you tell I’m browsing my itunes library? Ask Mr. Chili to put that one for me on his phone as we both love that song. “I kissed a girl” by Jill Sobule? Jeez this is hard! Ok, it’s a toss up betweem “Under the sea” from The little Mermaid. My favorite line, ” Darling it’s better down where it’s weter” or Niclkelback’s “If everyone cared”. You pick.
I am of the small minority that does not own a cell phone. Actually Tense wants me to get one but I am resiting with all that I am…
I have the soundtrack CD’s for all THREE of the LOTR films, Mrs. C. I’ve always liked either the Shire theme or the Rohan theme. But if you used something LOTR-related for me, how would you tell me from Bowyer?
As far as Eighties’ hair bands go, that was my original thought. I will unashemedly admit that my favorite song is “Still of the Night” from Whitesnake.
I think I’d like it to ring Rufus Wainwright singing, “Across the Universe” specifically as he sings “jai guru deva om”
thanks!
My own personal ringtone is “The Saints are Coming” - the collaboration by U2 and Greenday. That is recognizable for me as Saintseester. For those of you who know me in real life, since my name is “Beth” then the song of the same name by KISS is sort of a no brainer. I love KISS; I love that song. It’s a good pick - if you want to know who is calling.
When anyone but my sweetie calls me, the ring is that unforgettable intro to “Tubular Bells” which everyone will immediately recall when I say it was used in “The Exorcist.”
When my sweetie calls me, the ring is Sting doing “Desert Rose.”
I’m not privileged to have your phone number, and, truth to be told, I make very few phone calls (think of golfer Fred Couples, a famous phone-o-phobe; when asked why he didn’t like to answer the phone, he said “because there might be somebody on the other end.”). Here’s my whimsical suggestion list for your ring for me:
Fleetwood Mac: “Oh, Well.” (This would be the pre-Buckingham/Nicks Fleetwood Mac).
Frank Zappa: “Dancing Fool.” (I don’t know much about dancin/that’s why I sing this song/one of my legs shorter than the other/both of my feets too long—-and to go along with em/I got no natural rhythm/but I go dancin’ every night/hopin’ some day I might get it right/I’m a Dancin Fool . . . . )
Oh, well.
Sally is very meaningful and probably the right choice. Of course now that I’ve read other people’s suggestions I’m wondering if I can get away with Rufus Wainwright’s Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk. Probably not. Meet Virginia? Naw. Maybe Damn Everything But the Circus.
