Bo, you are absolutely right - Badlands debut album was much better than the sequel. The first album ROCKED!

Unfortunately, Badlands suffered the fate of many late-80's / early-90's hair metal bands and just came out at the wrong time. Bands like House of Lords, XYZ, Hardline, and Riverdogs. "Sigh" They coulda been contendas... :(

I'll be working on my list!

Thanks for the shout out. Had a fantastic family and friend filled day. Don't feel any older, so I suppose that's an added bonus!

Love "Southern Cross." Always have. Part of it for me is fond memories of early MTV. In and around "Southern Cross" on the television (back when MTV showed 13-14 videos per hour), there was Bezerk and Frogger on the Atari 2600 sitting on the black bean bag chair in my dad's den; oil-popped corn in the old Hamilton Beach popper; and trying to make sense of all the weird new energy we were suddenly feeling toward girls.

Sigh. That was such a long time ago now.

nhfalcon, that was indeed a good cover of "Fire and Rain." Voodoo Highway had moments, but top to bottom I think the self-titled album tops it.

I'm working on my list. I'll probably do another page, like Mrs. Chili did. And I haven't decided for sure, but I'm leaning against providing any sort of explanation. I may just list the songs.

"Romeo and Juliet." Monte Montgomery did a kickin' cover of this song on a live album, I forget just what that album was called, but I think you can audition this song on iTunes.

"Brown Eyed Girl." Not a bad song, but one which has been played so much, and covered by so many bad/average/good bar/restaurant/coffeehouse singers that I can no longer bear to hear it.

"Southern Cross." I like it, sort of. Well, more than sort of, but it just sounds like a song where if Steve Stills had just worked at it harder, it coulda been a contender.

Some great songs in there:

I've always liked "Southern Cross," too. Somehow, in my warped mind, that song gets lumped into the same category as "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and "We Just Disagree" and a couple of other tunes.

"Breathe (2AM)" struck me the first time I heard it.

The 80's hair metal band Badlands did a tremendous remake of "Fire and Rain," believe it or not.

"Tiny Dancer" and "Your Eyes" are classics, imho.

"Hallelujah" struck me like "Breathe (2AM)" did. I love it when songs do that. Like "Sway" from Bic Runga and "You and Me" from Lifehouse.
