Ten Things of Which I Approve.
I stole this from Saintseester, who stole it from someone else. It’s supposed to be a “seven things” meme, but I thought it would make a nifty Ten Things topic, so here we go:
1. I approve of the First Amendment and everything that it implies.
2. I approve of equal rights for all Americans - ALL of us. I also approve of other nations making their own rules and telling us to stay the hell out of their business - I just wish we’d listen.
3. I approve of “inappropriate” language used at appropriate times.
4. I approve of my children seeing Mr. Chili and me naked every once in a while, and I approve of having frank, honest discussions with them about anything they want to talk about.
5. I approve of sex education in schools, and I approve of young people having access to contraceptives and reproductive care. Of course, I send my girls to school already knowing everything they see in their human development lessons, so I’m not threatened by the idea that someone else is teaching my kid something I’m not.
6. I’m borrowing Seester’s words here when I say I approve of hand-holding and hugs and kisses in public.
7. I approve of stiff penalties for breaking laws - especially if those actions hurt other people.
8. I approve of the government having a hand in helping people, I just wish it did a better job of really helping.
9. I approve of Roe v. Wade.
10. I approve of open-mindedness. I’m constantly baffled that politicians get roasted for “flip-flopping” when, really, it’s the intelligent and thoughtful people who, when presented with new evidence or arguments, are willing to consider a new position than the one they previously held. I’m changing my mind all the time, and I don’t think that makes me inconsistent or weak. In fact, I think it makes me a better person.
Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

These are all good! I approve of all of them! Especially inappropriate language at appropriate times.
I approve too but stiff penalties do not usually solve the problem.. Swearing is fun!
You’re giving politicians the benefit of the doubt of being intelligent and thoughtful people, and not just spineless vote whores.
I’m sure some politicians out there have changed their positions because they considered all the evidence from all possible angles and finally decided their previous position was wrong, but c’mon - we all know most of them change their positions because the latest polls tell them if they don’t change their position they’re not going to be popular anymore, and an unpopular politician is an umemployed politician.
Of course, if you’re Bill Clinton you’ve changed positions because you actually care when your intern says her knees are getting sore…
Sorry, I couldn’t resist
i approve of inappropriate language pretty much all of the time. but, that’s because i’m a potty mouth.
On behalf of potty mouths everywhere - literate, eloquent, careful, and considerate speakers, I thank you for putting it so beautifully, Chili - sometimes the invective IS the best fucking choice.
I am totally stealing this idea… come see!
On that ‘cussin thing - I agree with you. I don’t get upset over “bad” words. I say ass on a regular basis. I fear that my children’s teachers will not feel the same way that I do about words.
I love to hear (and sometimes utter) creative swearing.
I really disapprove of anybody calling anybody else “stupid”. In my family, that word is the biggest bad word.
On your approval list: I approve.
I just had a back-to-sleep dream this morning where someone told me, very complimentary “You swear really well!”. And I do. I come from a long line of salty-tongued women and I’m damn proud of it.
I’ve never understood the whole “flip-flop” accusations. I’m with you. I want someone to constantly reevaluate where they stand on positions and why. If someone is changes their position on something and are able to reasonably justify why they change their position, then I’m okay with it.
Great, great list. I LOVE it
I don’t know if I approve of “innapropriate” language, but I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t!
I like to see people demonstrating love and caring in public, but I like to see it stop short of the “get a room” point!
