Spring Cleaning
March 24, 2008 by mrschili
I’m going to be away from my computer all day today. In fact, I may send my beloved laptop to work with Mr. Chili, just to get it out of the house. I’ve got things to do, and I don’t want to be distracted.
I’m not sure whether it’s the hints of approaching spring, a slight apprehension about what tomorrow might hold for me, or the fact that I just can’t stand it anymore, but I’ve got to get to cleaning this house.
My plan is to do a full-blown spring cleaning, starting in the lower left corner of Chez Chili and working my way to the upper right. Nothing is safe from my frenzy of cleanliness.
I have grand visions for today. I’ve laid out all the accountrement I might need - vacuum cleaner (with a fresh bag, no less!), mop and bucket, Murphy’s oil soap, Windex and paper towels, the full monty, as it were - and as soon as Bean is on the bus, I’m coming in and having at it. I’ll hook my iPod to the speakers on my desk - I won’t be able to hook my computer up to it because, well, it’ll be safely out of range and not offering up any opportunities for me to avoid what I want to do - and turn up the volume as I scrub and re-arrange and re-order my home.

I am, in a weird and twisted way, looking forward to my day of domestic labor. I want to be busy, and I’m going to love the feeling of a freshly scrubbed and tidied environment when I’m finished. Who knows? If the garage is warm enough and I have the time, I might even vacuum out the winter’s worth of grit and sand that has collected in the foot wells of my little car.
I’ll be back tomorrow with a Ten Things Tuesday. Until then, be well!

There is great satisfaction in domestic chores, I find. At times, I actually find them to be an antidote to depression.
Good for you! I used my day off to do some puttery repairs on doors and faucets and thngs. We’re due for a big cleaning too but will wait until we can leave the windows open all day and air out the place. Otherwise, we’re clean enough for company most of the time.
Good luck tomorrow.
good for you! although i suspect you won’t get this comment!
We started cleaning out closets and the attic. It is turning into an episode of musical piles. We keep moving things around, but what I really wish to do is evict some of them.
good luck for tuesday…i just know everything will be fine
Isn’t it strange the things we go through to get ourselves off the computer? When I go somewhere I have to force myself to leave the laptop behind.
thats what I did today, clean and organize! i always do that before I begin a creative streak and I have new canvases, about 500$ worth of other art supplies and inspiration in the form of a animal meditation cd and book set hehe!
When you’re done there, and if your interested in a trip to the Great White North, have I got a job for you!
Sending only good thoughts your way for Tuesday’s appointment.
PS–we beat the standing snowfall record on Friday. Officially, we’ve had 186 inches of snow. Egads!
Tell us the truth, Chili. Did you log in?
Gerry, I’m admitting to being a bit nervous, but not depressed. Regardless, all that cleaning did feel awfully good!
Laurie, I couldn’t wait until we could open the windows - I was nearing desperation. I’m looking forward to being firmly enough in spring that the windows can be left open for more than a minute or two, but we’re really not there yet.
Liv, I got it, but the next day.
Seester, I ended up throwing out quite a lot of stuff. It feels really good to release the things that no longer serve us.
Thanks, Rosie. I’m sure everything will be fine, too, but I still feel a little jittery.
Mike, seriously - it’s like crack.
Daz, I’m excited to see what your inspiration produces. Got any dragonflies in there?
Kwizgiver, if I make the trip to the Great White North, it’ll be to enjoy dinner with you, not to scrub your sink. Sorry, Honey, but that’s just how I roll. You beat us in the snowfall, too - our official record currently stands at 112 inches.
Auntie - I DIDN’T. I said I wouldn’t, and I didn’t. I DID, however, wash EVERY floor in the house (well, I didn’t wash the carpets, but I vacuumed the hell out of them - and sucked up quite a few dolly shoes), I brushed enough cat hair off the great room chairs to make another cat, and I even changed the shower curtain. I’m a woman of my word - you should see this place…
