Babycakes and I had been playing with a ball in the back yard, and the ball managed to roll into the lake (the narrow canal-looking portion which runs behind our house). She ran in to grap something to try to coax it to shore, but too late. The dragonfly apparently flew in while the slider was open. Anyway, we pushed the slider all the way open, hoping the creature would sense the fresh air and depart. It did. Later, after we'd been to the local fair (which, sadly, is nothing more than a carny---no animals, no local crafts, etc.), we spotted the ball behind a house down the water, and retrieved it. Yesterday a large dragonfly made its way into our house.
