Busy, Busy, Busy

Mrs. Chili’s got a non-stop day today, Kids. The only reason I’m actually able to write a post right now is that my chiropractor’s office just called to say he’s standing me up today (bastid!) so I don’t have to leave the house in two minutes. What do I do with that 20 minutes of found time? Why, blog, of course! I’ll start this now, but I won’t have time to finish it before I have to leave for classes.
Despite the fact that my college will be closing in the not-too-distant future, I was hired again this term; all of us adjuncts were, actually. While my course load isn’t any heavier this term than it’s been in the past - I’m scheduled for three classes - the way those classes are distributed through my week is making it interesting for me to get used to the new term. I’ve got classes Monday through Thursday, and that’s never happened to me before; I’ve always either been on a M/W or T/TH schedule, never both. Anyway, I’m trying to get used to the idea that I literally don’t have a day entirely off, and the fact that my classes run until 1:30 every day is making my scheduling of all the other stuff that has to happen in my life an exercise in circus-act juggling. Still, I can manage just about anything for eleven weeks, and I kind of like the idea of approaching a schedule that’s more in line with what damned near everyone else in the world has to do, so I don’t feel so much like a slacker this term.
In other news, I think my friend is doing pretty well. I sent her a text last night to which she responded that she was safe and sober, and I believe her. I woke her this morning checking in - I feel a little bad about that, but only a little - and I’ll call her again this afternoon to make sure she’s still well. I appreciate all your good wishes and support; we’re not out of the proverbial woods yet, and I’m taking all the help I can get until we are.
OH! A little order of business that I’ve been forgetting for days now; I’ve been given a couple of awards and I want to pass them on. Geek gifted me with the “sexy blogger” award. He has NO idea how sexy I really am…
I think we’ve got to define our terms a little better before we go any further; sexy, in this context, isn’t about what one can see with one’s eyes (despite what the image above might convey). Sexy, at least as I’m defining it, is an attitude; a confidence tinged with humor wrapped up in a wicked sharp intellect. Sexy bloggers make me think, make me laugh, and make me want to be more like them. Here, then are a few of my friends I’d like to recognize for having these qualities: Kizz (who, coincidentally, can also work the “what one can see with one’s eyes” kind of sexy, too) because she sees things that I wouldn’t see if she didn’t point them out (even about my own behavior); Bo, who’s got some amazing smart radiating from that sense of humor; and Michael, who’s got an eye for sexy (thanks for those pictures, Michael) and, really, what’s more sexy than a man who can spout royal, presidential, AND Civil War history and trivia? Nothing, that’s what.
I was also gifted an E for Excellence award.
I’m embarrassed to say that I can’t remember who bestowed this one on me - it was a week or so ago (and, you know, in blogging years, that’s forever. I swear - I leave you people alone for one day and I’ve got 75 items on my feed reader!). I should have written down who gave me the honor - and I feel like a total schmuck for not remembering - but I am excited about passing it on! Here, in no particular order, are three blogs I think deserve an E for Excellence award: Gerry over at TwoBlueDay continues to bring me back to his site with his insightful writing, his amazing photography, and his sharp sense of humor. My sister, Auntie, gets the nod for her site, Who Does She Think She Is Anyway, both because I think she’s excellent anyway and because she posts stuff that makes me laugh (check out 101 ways to know you’re from Boston). I’m so glad she decided to start blogging. Finally, I hand off the Excellence award to Dr. Tom Bibey. Here’s a man who can write about health issues, golf, bluegrass, barbecue and how to be a good person with equal grace, eloquence, and humor. On top of all that, he responds to every comment that’s left for him, and that kind of personal attention goes a long way these days.

Hey, thanks so much and right back atcha!
I use the star function to save posts I want to go back to, give it a try if you’re so inclined. It’s a much better filing system than any I have for things I’ve written down.
In my life I’ve won two things, finished runner-up once, and have hopes for one last project. Half of these things don’t matter.
1. I was mandolin player of the year in the Medical Society 25 years in a row- they retired the award. I play good for a Doctor but have no business turning pro. No regrets.
2. One year my cousin Russell and I won the Member/Member golf tournament. It was a decade ago. Good thing it ain’t too important- couldn’t do it now.
3. I lost the one that might have mattered a bit. In Med School, they had an award for most promising Family Doc. I was runner-up. The kid who won lasted a year then went into Radiology. Oh well, forever the bridesmaid- I did stand the test of time, though. Finishing second was a good thing. I’ve l’ve aways been like Avis- trying harder.
4. I hope someday someone will read my books. They matter a bit to me too.
As far as your lady in the picture I don’t even know anyone who looks like that, and haven’t in more than a quarter century.
Dr. B
And by the way, I need to add the E award- three things this old country boy has won now! Thanks chili!
Dr. B
Awards are always nice. I need to start passing out a few myself.
Nice post considering you only had 20 minutes. It would have taken me longer.
Hey, baby, nice ass!
On a more serious note, you and your blogs definitely deserve any awards they get!
Hey, thanks for the E award! E is my middle name! Well, middle initial. Seriously, a nod from you is better than a gilded trophy from someone else.
Again, I blush. Thank you, Mrs. Chili.
Thanks Chili! I’m glad you like my blog so much. Next weeks Ten Things Tuesday should give you a laugh!
Oh my God, I don’t know what to say. I’m just thrilled. I’ve had such a good time starting my blog over the last year. Mrs. Chili is one of my favorites - a real inspiration!
Now, am I supposed to post this on my blog and nominate some others?
And for the record, I’m not just sexy in a cerebral kind of way.

congratulations, sexy gal!
