		<description>I think so.  I had a student this year who bombed the midterm.  Bombed, completely and utterly. The odd thing was that speaking with her,  I could tell that she understood the material. So, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and asked her to write a short research paper on the topic for extra credit.  To her credit, she did a great job, AND she pulled out an 85 on the final exam.  So I felt okay about the extra credit in this situation. I almost never do that.</description>
