Five for F-F-Friday!
May 9, 2008 by mrschili
It’s springtime in New England, Kids! Here, look! Proof!
First, here’s a close-up of what’s going on at The Tree. Despite the pretty, soft red of these buds, in another week or so the entire tree will be a giant puff-ball of white blossoms:
These are forsythia growing in my yard!
These are adorable. They’re some variety of violets (Johnny Jump-Ups, I think) and they’re trying to take over. Grow, little cuties, GROW! You may spread to wherever you can reach!
The rest are previews of what’s coming. I’ve got a clump of chives coming up that, in another few weeks, will go from this (which I took today):
to this (which I took last summer):
Finally, I’m also eagerly anticipating irises. The greens have come up (I didn’t bother to take a picture of what looks like a clump of tall, wide grass stalks) but, as yet, no flower stems. I have faith, though; here’s what I got last year…
Happy Fucking Floral Friday, Everyone!

I love forsythia in bloom. I just wish they weren’t so short lived. We planted one at our old house, but the deer kept eating it to nubs. The deer loved our iris shoots as well.
I am glad spring is coming your way. I wish ours lasted longer, because I feel hot summer creeping in over here.
We had spring last week with temperatures in the 70’s. This week we have had temps in the 50’s and 60’s. Feels more like winter than spring right now.
I had actually forgotten it was Friday. I think my brain is fried from putting rocks in the garden. We’ve been in the 90s this week, just brutal. We only do the work in the morning, and before noon we are sweat-soaked and exhausted.
Tomorrow (Sat.) more of the same.
Thanks for the pretty flower pix. I’m anxious to see what our garden is doing. Strangely, I have no forsythia (well, not so strange, most years we wouldn’t see it bloom).
you know, sweetness? i’m so shocked by your f-bomb dropping. it gets me every time. not that i disapprove. it’s more that i am pre-programmed to expect sweetness and light from you!
SO beautiful. I LOVE those close ups.
Spring’s REALLY here, right? Not kidding? No more snow days?
Brilliant.
Lovely photos of lovely flowers! Thanks for showing them!
Beautiful! I didn’t realize forsythia was yellow. Do you give your chives a haircut and then get more?
What is the tree in the first picture? There are white puff ball trees lining the street to the state hospital. They are very pretty but I have no idea what they are. They are already starting to turn green though.
Different kind of tree, Auntie; I’m not sure exactly what they are, but they’re blooming way ahead of what I’ve got in the yard (which, I think, is a kind of choke cherry). I’ll post pictures of blossoms and leaves for each of the trees and see if someone smarter than us can identify them for us….
My irises haven’t bloomed in two years. WHY?
BTW, I am thinking maybe next Friday, but let me double check!
It was 97 f*cking degrees here today. How’s that for spring?
I love the pictures, and it makes me ache for green, lovely plants with flowers. The cacti are pretty, but it’s not the same.
Mrs. Chili, I have some blog love for you!
