I’m safely arrived at the fellowship site. I’ve connected with my roommate, unpacked my stuff, and gotten my name tag. We’ve got about an hour and a half before dinner and the official kick-off of this adventure.
I’m excited to be able to blog from my room. As a result, I’ll be keeping you up to date on what’s going on, though most of my “teacherly” entries will likely happen over here; I’ll save personal observations and stories for this site.
Before I left, everyone kept wishing me a good time. I’m not sure, given the topic, that “good time” is exactly on the agenda, but do I appreciate what they mean. I WILL have a good time here – it’s all about learning and collaborating and figuring out how to teach a huge and almost incomprehensible topic to others in the enduring hope that such atrocities should never be allowed to happen again. I’m all about that.

Well the process of learning can be fun even if the subject matter is painful.
For some reason I’m not worried about your figuring out how to teach anything to others.

Studying institutionalized mass murder probably isn’t going to be “fun.” Nevertheless . . .
I always remember that as “mass” as the holocaust was, it was still a very large number of individual humans who were terrorized, tortured, and killed.
And that individual self-aware people did the terrorizing, torturing, and killing.
It’s so very complex. The more I study it the more I am fascinated by it. I’m interested in your insights–both teacherly (at the other blog) and personal.
