Seriously?! At this rate, the kids’ll be in school until the Fourth of July!

The order of the day is staying in and laying low. Punkin’ has discovered my first season set of the Gilmore Girls. Beanie is working her magic on Woogi World. Mr. Chili is taking periodic trips outside to dig out the driveway, though it seems most of the snow part of this storm is over for us; the sky is now spitting out little pebbles of ice. I’m finishing up this post and then heading back to my book (I chose Pigs in Heaven by Barbara Kingsolver. I really do like her writing voice).
Lunch will be whatever each of us wants provided, of course, that ‘whatever’ is actually in the house, and I’m planning a lovely pot of cheese soup for dinner. I’m hoping to engage at least part of my brood in a game later this afternoon; we have Boggle and Scrabble (of COURSE you do, Chili! DUH!) and a game called Rummikub that’s pretty fun (we pronounce it “roomy-cube” but I don’t know if that’s what the manufacturers intended) and, of course, there’s always Uno.
Quiet, warm, and safe. Sigh.

Can I come live at your house. We have a chilly 70 here in LA and there is no excuse not to get up and go…so jealous.
I like your game choices! I think we’ve got all of them, too. (We pronounce it rummy-cube.)
I know what you mean. It is 65 degrees and partly cloudy here. I can hardly work on my tan in this weather, and tonight when I walk the dog I might have to wear a long-sleeved T-shirt!
Darci, wanna switch? I’ll live at your house for a month and you can live here. Seriously…
Lily, you pronounce it that way, too? PHEW! I’m glad it’s not just us.
Joe – and I say this with all due respect – bite me.
Most of the schools were closed here as well (CT) And even in the child care center where I teach we had probably about 50 kids.
I love Games and I thank you for playing games with your kids. It’s a lost art playing board games. Taking turns What’s that? Playing something that doesn’t make noise? The horrors!
I love to play games with our after school group.
Chili, the real winter, snow dumping weather’s only just truly begun – we’re bound to have many more of these school-prolonging school closings… On that cheery thought, I’m going to get OUR rummy-cube set out and have at it with the kids… good idea
Sounds like an utterly idyllic day! Even with sunny blue skies and t-shirt weather here in LA, I am jealous of your snow day.
Normally, I would go on and on about how lucky you are but after digging out my car repeatedly over the holidays during our big storm, I’ll just say I hope it melts soon. And that you don’t have to scrape the windshield.
I LOVE rummikube. Taught my parents how to play it over xmas. My sisters always insist on a Boggle showdown whenever we’re together. Do you have the master version as well as the regular?
I gave my 9 yr old nephew a backgammon set for xmas. He’s kind of a one-on-one kid, so I figured this would be a fun way to pass on another of my all-time fav games.
Now if we just had your winter scene outside our doors instead of the flooded yards. Can’t complain, though, since HSV is out of the drought category for the first time in 3 years.
I like an inside day, too. My girls and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Gilmore Girls- hello, we even named our dog Sookie!
Sounds like a nice snuggly day! The storm isn’t giving us any time off, we’re pushing through–even though we’ve already gotten a couple inches of snow. It’s going to dump about ten inches on us, all told.
No one will play word games with me. And, my boys, they’ve been playing this board game that takes hours and hours. I don’t have the patience for it. I like Killer Bunnies.
My sister had a game over Christmas called Wits and Wagers – it plays really fast, and any age can join in. Everyone throws in an answer, then you wager on who you think is the closest.
Love those snow days. Warm, safe and full of Scrabble. And Pigs in Heaven! One of my favourite books. I’m looking forward to hearing how you like it!
Sounds like we had similar days…snow and ice, no school, no work, struggles to de-ice the driveway, and a day by the fire. But instead of Gilmore Girls, we watched a long marathon of Top Chef. Ahhh…snow days.
Stay warm. I’m not gonna say a thing about our weather!
