Lately, the television at Mom’s house has been set most often to the National Geographic channel. As a result, I’ve got to see quite a few episodes of The Dog Whisperer.

I’ve developed a little crush on Cesar Millan.
If you’ve never seen the show (and I’d not until recently; we don’t get NatGeo at Chez Chili), the upshot of the concept is that people who have unmanageable canines call this man as a last resort. Their dogs are aggressive, they pose a threat to neighbors and children, they restrict their owners’ ability to have visitors in their home or to take the dogs out for walks. People get to the end of their proverbial ropes and they call in the Dog Whisperer.
In walks this man. He’s calm. He’s assertive. He’s observant and no-nonsense. He’s got a great sense of humor and he’s cute, to boot.
His tag line is that he rehabilitates dogs, but trains people. Within minutes, he’s got the crazed, seemingly possessed dogs settled and calm and submissive, and the owners are sitting there with their jaws in their laps amazed at the immediacy of the change. The confidence that this man exudes, even when he’s faced with snarling teeth, is quite attractive.

Not to mention that he’s cute.

I love when he roller blades with the dogs.
Being calm with dogs is a big first step. They pick up on people’s moods and emotions quickly, and can tell when they’ve met an “Alpha”. Alphas are generally not aggressive (within their own pack, at least), they are calm and controlled.
I love to watch the show too. I did speak to the behaviorists I know and learned that many behaviorists think Cesar and his magic pill approach to dog training makes their jobs harder, as people expect that his methods, applied over just days, are realistic no matter what the problem. Cesar’s people vet the issues and choose those that can be ’solved’ within a short period of time. What we’re not seeing is the longer term work rehabilitating takes.
But he does approach things calmly – so often the opposite is the mistake dog owners (myself included) make, as yelling and raising voices stress dogs out, interfering with their learning the behaviors we want. I like his training of people and I have learned quite a bit from his approaches.
And yeah, he’s cute.
Haven’t watched, ain’t gonna watch, not when “Ice Road Truckers” is available, anyway.
Not.
I love to watch Cesar. Every time he walks in, the dog in question immediately seems to know “alpha dog in the house.” I laugh every time. Cesar knows he’s the boss and so the dog knows he’s the boss.
I’m not gonna burst your bubble about Cesar Milan. Let’s just say that I wouldn’t let that man near Dingo Girl. But I will agree with you that he’s a cutie.
I’ve heard that there are a lot of people who disagree with his tactics. Not having a dog myself – and not knowing much at all about canine psychology – I can’t say one way or the other. But he is cute…
Actually, I got to spend time with them when they were here in Phoenix. The REAL heart breaker, is Daddy, that wonderful pitbull (sigh) Daddy is SOOOOO patient with his adoring fans!
Also, sorry Organic Mama (great name by the way), The producters actually vet the stories for complexity, for non-repetition of other stories, to ensure there are no health problems, and to make sure that all local solutions have been tried, including trainers.
There are many many episodes which were filmed over time of months (a few as long as six months) as well as follow ups which are done with the owners many more months after that.
As just a 55 year old dog loving ,college teacher, since his program came out, I have been able to use his technques to hel rehab and save around 40 rescued dogs no one else would help!
Cesar may be a good lookin fella, but most people cant resist his wonderful personality which is exactly what you see on tv!
I have a thing for him too.
And I thought it was just me.
Damn, he IS cute! No TV going on in this house, and when I visit my parents, it’s the Game Show Network. Maybe I need to figure out how to use their satellite dish controls!
So you like ABUSIVE men? You are sick! Cesar Millan is a weakling who can’t dominate any men in his life so he has to do it to poor, tame, domesticated animals. You don’t see this sumbitch trying to train elephants or lions or using his miraculous tactics on our humans who misbehave (criminals). There’s a reason for that. Any one of those would kick his ass! Cesar is just another human male with machismo problems who takes it out on animals. He should be prescribed some estrogen.
roflmao. I have never read anything funnier in my life. Clearly Brock knows NOTHING about Cesar Millan. This gentle compassion man (yes I have met and spent time with his and his wonderful wife), has no need to kick anyone.
Brock, this man is a SIX time judo champion! If you spent ANY significant time watching his techniques you would see that more the 80% of the time he doesnt even need to TOUCH the dogs. (Remember that he ONLY works with dogs that no other “professional” has been able to help.
It is so ironic, that for all the times he is attacked by others with their own agenda for seeing him destroyed he has never ONCE retaliated on any level in return.
These comments also demonstrate the complete ignorance about the truth of this man!
He just spent this weekend, working to convince other men how important it is to spay and neuter dogs. One way he did that – this hispanic man talked about getting a vascetemy (sp) so that he could be responsible for the family he has, to this largely hispanic audience. That takes HUGE cultural courage.
He also works side by side with his wife, she runs the business, helps him on the shows AND talks about the power of women and how men need to respect and listen to women, how much women have to teach men – in his newsletters, in ALL of his three national best selling books, and on his show.
You may want to take some of that estrogen to get out of your testosterone rage and calm down enough to get some facts to write about.
I can’t watch the show because it makes me cry. Not because I think he’s abusive or because all of the stories are necessarily heartbreaking. Just the mere whiff of a turnaround where pets are concerned just sets me off. I sobbed when the Great Dane learned to walk on shiny floors! I finally had to ban myself from the show before I got permanently stuffy sinuses.
Cesar is AMAZING!! He walks right in, assesses the sit-u-ation (LOVE his accent!) and dogs submit! When any of them put up a fuss, Cesar HANDLES it! WHO WOULDN’T want a husband like that?!? Kudos to that pretty Illusion for snagging him! Those 2 handsome sons of his are adorable, too! I appreciate Cesar’s patience & knowledge & love of what he does. He’s been able to make a living at it & that is highly commendable! “If you love what you do, you never have to work a day of your life!”
Of his dogs, DADDY makes me laugh with his hefty trot!
JUNIOR, the runner-up for DADDY has a coat like gray velvet.
And that little dog, SID is hilarious! As small as he is, he’s like, the lieutenant of the pack!
I am in love with Cesar and have been for years. With the perfect mixture of confidence and humility, I find him so attractive. Besides being intelligent and compassionate, he has a wonderful sense of humor. I wish I found him before his wife. I would’ve been as dedicated to him as he is to his pack. He has all my admiration and respect. I’ve been telling everyone about “The Dog Whisperer” at every turn. His techniques are sound and the results are remarkable. I wish I lived in California; I would donate all my time to further his cause. The man is a well rounded, well adjusted, handsome, exceptional human being. He’s just perfect.
To the moron who spoke against Cesar, you’re just jealous and threatened by Cesar’s machismo. Cesar exudes manliness. And he’s so gentle. …and thought ful and generous and witty…LOL. Did I mention how much I love him?
I’m with you Maria. I am in love with Cesar also. He caught my eye because he is so darn cute and I love dogs. After watching a few episodes I came to realize that there is much more to him than that lovely smile and sense of humour. I am a fan for life !!! and Daddy is just as enjoyable to watch as his owner. My 20 year old daughter started watching with me and she is now in love too !!
Keep up the good work Cesar ……and to Mrs Cesar…..WHAT A LUCKY WOMAN YOU ARE !!!!!!!!!!
My dream job would be to work for the Millan’s at the Dog Center.

Well, girls, eat your hearts out, I am going to see him in person in about 10 days. He will be in my area and I am in the fourth row.
I am also going to my job dressed as Cesar for Halloween.
They know me at work as a dog lover and a Cesar lover.
I took my dog to the vet and they had a full sized cardboard cut out of Cesar. I wanted to ask if I could have it. He is such a doll. I like his sense of stability and integrity. I see him as a bit of a philosopher.
