I’m confused.
I grew up understanding that there were two “war” holidays – Memorial Day and Veterans Day. I thought that Memorial Day was the sad, somber holiday set aside to remember the war dead, and that Veterans Day was a more celebratory occasion meant to thank and honor those who served – and continue to serve – in the armed forces.
Am I wrong? Because I’m seeing an awful lot of Arlington Cemetery today.

As an ex-band member all I can say is, we played taps a lot for both. When you honor their service and so many die while serving…
That’s how I always understood it. Why have two separate holidays otherwise?
