Mr. Chili can’t come home for Labor Day weekend. We likely won’t see him again until the end of September.
I’m trying very, very hard not to throw a tantrum….
I’m sitting in the high school parking lot waiting to pick Punkin’ up
from band practice. Hand to God, I’m boxed in, right, left, and front,
by giant pickup trucks and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM is idling, and has
been for the ten minutes I’ve been here. Who DOES that?! Forget the
hippy-liberal concern for the polution you’re generating; you’re
getting ZERO mpg, and gas is still nearly four bucks a gallon! REALLY?!
Ten insignificant little things that make me happy:
1. Peaches so juicy you have to eat them over the sink.
2. Roasted garlic paste. Along with that, the smell of garlic in my house (and on my fingers) when I make it.
3. New school/office supplies.
5. Students who make me laugh.
6. My car.
7. Hot water in the shower in the morning.
8. Greek yogurt.
10. Angry Birds.
Notice there’s nothing earth-shattering or important about any of these things; of course my family and my friends are what matter most to me, but these little pleasures infuse a nice glow of contentment to my day-to-day.
What little things make you happy?
The lights are back on at Chez Chili! Could you hear my sigh of relief from where you are? Now pardon me while I go wrestle the fridge back into its cubby; I had to wiggle it out to get to the plug yesterday when the power went out…
Dammit! The power is STILL out at Chez Chili. I wouldn’t be upset – I mean, there are plenty of other people who got it far worse than we did – but I can’t figure out WHY we’re without power. There are no downed lines, there are no trees across poles, there’s nothing at all to indicate that the power should be out. What’s even more fun is that, two streets down, the lights are on. I’m posting this from school where, you guessed it, the lights are on. WTF?!
The generator is still running the fridge, but I’ve got the main back on at the breaker box so I’ll know when the power goes back online. My wish is that it will be back on when I get home tonight.
The power went out at 1:05. I’m not sure why; nothing special was happening. I hope it doesn’t stay off long…
