Quick Hit: Plateau

This is the second week in a row I’ve maintained my weight.  I’m happy I’ve not gone up, but I’m disappointed I’ve not gone down.

I’m exercising several times a week and am keeping pretty meticulous track of my caloric intake, so clearly I need to do something different to break through this barrier.  Any suggestions?

  1. Maybe change up the kind/intensity of exercise you’re doing for a little bit? Try eating a bit more, or a bit less. Good luck!

    Mrs. Chili,
    Good luck with your healthy eating and exercise program! It’s a good start and given yourself a pat on the back. Oftentimes at a certain age, it is difficult to lose weight. I believe exercise is the key. I don’t like to get on the scale–it’s too harsh with its ups and downs. I use my clothes to tell me how my body is doing. With our busy lifestyles, women have to incorporate an exercise program that they are happy with. It has worked for me, however because I like to eat all kinds of food, I need to get to the gym everyday, no matter how tired I am. (Make that 3 times/week.) If my daughter can run for high school track 5 days a week, I can do a bit more. Do you understand?

    Did you suddenly increase the amount or intensity of your exercise, or change to more protein than usual? You might be picking up muscle mass that is countering your weight loss.

  5. All will be well. I’ve taken two days off exercise and watching my diet (although that hasn’t included massive infusions of sweets!).

    Good job! As for not losing, are you eating enough? I didn’t lose until I started having a ‘snack’ mid morning and mid afternoon! The snacks are things like string cheese, an apple, an orange, cherry tomatoes, etc.
    and remember, muscle weighs more than fat.
