Quick Hit: Reading

I’m trying to make my way through Pillars of the Earth.  I have to admit that it’s not really grabbing me, despite the glowing reviews of several people whose opinions about such things I trust.  I’m going to stick it out for a while longer, though, in the hopes that I can get off the proverbial runway.

What are you reading, and what do you think about it?

I wanted to like it more than I did. So many characters, it started to feel like I was inside a tangled ball of yarn. I finished it, and I guess I am glad I did, but it took several sessions (I think I had to put it down and take a break three times).

Have you ever read Marge Piercy’s Gone to Soldiers? Given your interests (long time reader, shy poster!) I think you would really enjoy it!

    • I LOVE this book – I re-read it every few years!

Me too! It’s like visiting with old friends. I actually THINK about them even when I’m not rereading it. I wonder what happens to all of them as the decades unfold. : ) And it NEVER fails to move me every time!

  3. Just started “Divergent,” first in a YA series by Veronica Roth. It’s post-apocolyptic/dystopian genre, not usually my favorite, but it’s engaging so far.

I just finished reading The Hobbit for my reading group and am currently reading a cozy mystery.
