Bean ROCKED her first band show!!
Did I tell you guys that Bean is in the marching band? I can’t recall if I told you this yet or not.
Every time a student leaves the marching band, the entire drill for that section (whichever instrument the leaving kid played) has to be rewritten to compensate for the hole the kid left.
I guess a bunch of kids left the marching band at the beginning of the year. Every time someone left, the director had to rework the drill. It finally got to the point where the proverbial camel’s back was broken when someone left the trumpet section a few weeks in.
The way Punk tells it, Ms. B, the director, gathered the band together and said “OKAY. THAT’S IT! I am NOT rewriting ANOTHER drill this year. Do ANY OF YOU know ANYONE who’d be willing to march for the rest of the season? They don’t have to play the trumpet; if we have to, we’ll put their arm in a sling, I DON’T CARE.”
Punk asked Bean if she’d do it (which surprised the hell out of me; I didn’t think she’d want her little sister in on something that’s been exclusively her thing for the last two years), and Bean said she would.
She doesn’t play the trumpet, but she holds it like she’s playing it (she opted not to go for the sling option, though it WAS made available to her). She’s loving it, I think; she was positively buzzing after tonight’s band show. She hit all her cues, turned exactly when she was supposed to, and looked like she was having a blast doing it.
